Wi-Fi to become faster than wired connection, Wi-Fi 7?

Wi-fi 7

Wi-Fi 6 is barely here, and engineers are already in talks about Wi-Fi 7. If you’re not up to date the Wi-Fi 6 improvements will be made in three phases.

“I’m excited about delivering a gigabit everywhere in your house, every nook and cranny,” said V.K. Jones, Qualcomm’s vice president of technology. “You’ll be at the point where wireless is faster than wired.”

In an interview at Qualcomm’s Wi-Fi Day in August, Jones also shared some details on how Wi-Fi 7 will work.

First improvement to Wi-Fi 6 is set to happen next year which will be new airwaves that US and European governments will use most likely for radio transmissions.

The second improvement which is set to be completed in 2022 will be to improve Wi-Fi 6 speeds. It will help with uploading data including video as this is becoming the dominant type of traffic accounting for 82%, this will be from both phones and PCs.

Finally, the third improvement should drop in 2024 and most likely be called Wi-Fi 7 with speeds as high as 30 gigabits per second, meaning it’s three times faster than Wi-Fi 6.
