Here are 5 reasons why Christmas is a good time for job hunting

Here are 5 reasons why Christmas is a good time for job hunting

1. Get ahead of the competition

A lot, if not most people will wait until the New Year to start their job search. With people making semi-empty promises about a new year, new me, fresh start etc. You will be competing with a load of enthusiastic people trying to complete their new year resolutions.
So why waste the time in December? Although recruitment does slow down and there are fewer vacancies, there is also less competition. So why not take advantage of the once-crowded recruitment websites and find your dream job!

2. Temp work

We all know that particular industries like entertainment and retail get swamped around Christmas time. As a result, there are a lot of shops, bars, restaurants looking for Christmas Temp staff to help them with the higher demand of customers.
There is no harm in getting a bit of extra cash on the side of your job search.

3. It’s a joyous time of year

It’s known that Christmas is a joyful time of year and most people (except scrooge) will be in a better mood over this period.
They will often have more free time and have less CVs to peruse. So perfect for you!
Catching a recruiter in a good mood is always an advantage. And with more of the Christmas joy around you are more likely to do this, and they are more likely to shortlist you.
Take advantage of the joyous time!

4. Budget Deadlines

With businesses having annual budgets for the year, a lot will still have some coming to the end of the year. The budget will cover recruitment, and there’s a good chance they would like to use this before January.
Businesses will need to spend all the money allocated for that year to avoid having budget cuts.

5. Organized Companies

An organized manager would have already taken recruitment need into consideration for the upcoming year. As a result, these companies will have a ‘December rush’. This is where new recruitment is hired and train in the anticipation of the business picking up in the New Year.
Despite everyone being distracted by Christmas, this period can be a good time to hire and train new staff. This is because business (especially office-based) tends to die down in December.
Also, another great advantage is that they are most likely be well-organized when compared to their competitors who will be scrambling amongst the January rush to find interviewees.

Summary

As you have just read there is so much to take advantage of during this festive period. Beat the January rush and make life easier for yourself!
Go get looking whilst no one else is! You can also have those Christmas songs or movie on in the background with a cup of hot chocolate whilst you scroll through job listings.
