Bristol Tech Startups To Follow

Bristol is a growing hub of startups especially emerging tech companies. With two universities in Bristol and two in Bath, there are so many graduates helping the technology sector to strive in the South West. As we do a lot of recruitment for IT jobs in the South West, especially Bristol, we thought we would highlight the emerging tech startups to follow.

Open Bionics

Open Bionics have designed the world’s first clinically approved 3-D printed bionic arm with multi-grip functionality. The Bristol tech startup have made a new prosthetic arm which will be able to transform amputees lives as it is much more affordable than current options and is great quality. Prosthetic arms typically cost tens of thousands of pounds whereas this prosthetic arm will only cost £2,000, making it much more affordable. One of the main cost issues is for children as they frequently need refits, so this new product will be a great solution. The arm is made by 3D scanning and printing, it is robust, lightweight, comfortable and breathable. There are sensors which allow you to easily control the bionic hand with sensitivity. You can also get covers including Star Wars, Iron Man and other Disney characters.

Graphcore

Recently founded in 2016, Graphcore are a Bristol based startup that make AI processors and software. They have created an IPU which has been specifically designed for machine intelligence training and inference. With their computational resources, graph software tools and libraries, researchers can explore the machine intelligence across a much broader front. The IPU lowers the cost of AI in the cloud and datacentre and is between 10X to 100X faster than other hardware currently on the market.

Trackener

Trackener is the first monitoring technology to be worn by horses. The horses wear it 24/7 and it helps owners detect and prevent health issues. It means that owners can monitor the health of their horse when they are not there and can also see their behaviour and activity. One of the main aims is to be able to detect any health issues earlier on. All of the data is located on an app which you can access at all times. Owners can monitor their sleep patterns, evaluate exercises, track activity, see their heart-rate and compare it all together.

Zenstores

You can also connect your courier accounts to print shipping labels and book shipments so you can dispatch your orders in bulk. The main aim of the business is to allow you to have more time to focus on other sections of your business, so your orders and shipping can simply to organise.
