7 signs its time to change careers

7 signs it’s time to change careers

Everyone would like to wake up every day and be excited about going into work. However, it’s not always that simple.

When your pros outweigh the cons, then it’s a great fit, right? Well, this is most likely just temporally, as these cons might be a sign to move on.

1. Feeling sick

You’re not going to be excited and happy every day of work. Everyone has their “off” days. Although constantly have some or all of these can be a warning sign:

  • Anxiety and/ or headaches on Sunday evening or the day before going back to work.
  • Your body aches and is in pain more than usual
  • You have no energy to do the simplest task such as get out of bed.
  • You clock watch at work

These can be a sign that you are not happy at work and you need to change something.

2. Lack of confidence. Doubt and apathy have risen

If the role is right for you, it should boost your confidence and self-esteem not decrease it.

  • Do you lack confidence in your decision-making?
  • Lack of inspiration and ideas
  • Suggestions and ideas from colleagues and management are ignored
  • You don’t see room to progress in your current role

If you want a job that impacts your emotional well-being and your current role doesn’t, it might be a sign for a change.

3. Daydreaming

Your internet habits and searches may be telling you something. Spending time doing google searches, looking on social media, bookmarking companies of interest or searching job postings is a sign in itself.

4. Salary is the reason you’re staying

A higher paid job means more security and more benefits but can make the unhappiness a bitter pill to swallow. Although, for some “money can’t buy happiness” is a statement to live by. If your head isn’t in the role, you need to ask is the benefits and salary worth it.

5. Are you bored?

You don’t have a fun and exciting job, it was always interesting right? But the need to increase skills is not there? You can’t progress and increase your skillset. In the past, you had an edge over competitors and challenges appeared almost every day.

6. No longer fit your life

Your hours don’t fit in with your life, whether this is because you are a parent or looking after someone. Your career needs you to always be available and drop things whatever time. Or it just isn’t relevant to your life now.

7. Changes in the workplace

A new manager or changes within the company that you aren’t happy with any more may affect your workday. You may not be comfortable with the new “culture” and/or what is expected from you. Perhaps you hours have changed, or payment details and timings there could be many reasons.

Summary

You may like the people you work with, colleagues, boss, customers/clients but the job satisfaction is no longer there. You need to move on and increase your skills and have your head in the right place, somewhere you are engaged and passionate.
