Are you looking at moving to a different executive level job or are you looking for your first senior position? It can be hard to know where to start especially if you are currently in a role. Here are our top tips to start your executive job search.

Industry Trends

It is important to stay up to date with what the industry trends are, there might be important new technology you need to be aware of, or lots of new companies to be aware of. It is important to understand and be aware of competition and what they are currently working on. The best way to stay updated with industry trends is to check the news in your industry, follow relevant companies and people on LinkedIn and talk to people you know in the industry. This is especially important if you are in a frequently updating industry such as Technology.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn is especially useful if you are currently in a role, as recruiters will be able to search for you if you are right for a role they have. Make sure that your LinkedIn profile is updated stating all of your relevant skills and experiences. If you haven’t updated it in a while just check all of your achievements and skills are on there. Also ensure you are networking with the right people. Link with people in your industry, follow companies that are recruiting for senior roles and link with recruiters. Try to get your profile seen by as many relevant people as possible to increase your chances of being found by a great company.

Update CV

To start your executive job search, as well as updating your LinkedIn make sure you have updated your CV. If you have recently achieved any career accomplishments or worked for an exciting company, you will want the recruiter to see this. Be prepared for when you need to send someone a CV or any other important documentation. If you have a portfolio, update that to ensure your latest and most exciting work is all present.

Network

Apart from LinkedIn networking, make sure you are face-to-face networking. Attend any industry or corporate events that potential employees could be at. Use your contacts as much as possible to network with relevant people, especially people in senior positions. It can also be great to network with executive recruiters as they have experience with people in your current situation and might even have a perfect job for you. Even if they don’t have a job for you, it is worthwhile making that connection so you have more options in the future.
