At ITR Partners, we have a designated team of consultants working and hiring in the Norwegian Tech Market. Therefore, we decided it was the right time to catch up with clients both old and new in Oslo to get an understanding of their tech stack, business model, company culture and subsequent hiring plans.

Armed with their objectives, the team, comprised of Delivery Manager Jack Axton, Recruitment Consultant Jack-Liam Nelson, Senior Recruitment Consultant Harry Moore, Recruitment Consultant Stephen Dyer, and Sales Director Dan Parsons, embarked on an exciting journey to the snowy landscapes of Oslo.

Why Norway?

In our commitment to align with our clients’ growth strategies, we prioritise face-to-face meetings with Department Managers. And when an opportunity arises for a three-day trip to Norway, who would say no?

During our visit, we gained valuable insights into a diverse range of businesses, from in-house start-ups to boutique and enterprise-level consultancies.

We approached Delivery Manager Jack Axton, who leads our ITR Nordic division, to shed light on his decision to recruit in the Norwegian tech market.

“Headcount growth within the Norwegian tech market is at the core of plans for a number of businesses in 2023. Within ITR, we have a strong split between consulting and in-house clients, and both sets of clients have exciting business needs that require actioning through the growth of departments within the Software Engineering, Cloud and Infrastructure and Project Management areas.

From an in-house perspective, the start-up scene in Oslo is booming, and in order to capitalise on heavy funding, businesses are allocating a large proportion of their spend on increasing headcount to allow their product suite to go to market. From a consulting perspective, the heavy investment in technology within both the public and private sector has led to businesses leveraging the expertise of consultancies to deliver a vast portfolio of tech driven solutions – to accommodate an increase in projects, it’s essentials these consultancies grow their consulting divisions and work on the delivery of the projects.

Whilst looking to maintain relationships with existing clients in our portfolio, we also used the visit to Oslo as a chance to establish new relationships with businesses we have a particular interest in. This has further diversified our client-base and means, when we go to market, we have a range of positions for candidates within our network.”

How we spent our time

During our stay in Oslo, a significant portion of our time was dedicated to conducting in-depth meetings with key contacts such as CTOs, Head of Consulting, Talent Acquisition Managers, and Engineering Managers.

We had the pleasure of immersing ourselves in their core working environments, gaining valuable insights into the specific requirements for tech hires in 2023. Our focus was on creating tailor-made solutions that will drive the rapid scaling of their departments. We are excited about the prospects of implementing these solutions in the coming months.

A few members of the ITR team were making their first client visit to Oslo, which has positioned them to best represent our clients to the Norwegian talent pool.

On the lighter side, our evenings were spent tucking into some delicious food and laughing at Jack Nelson’s poor shuffleboard skills!

The future of Norwegian recruitment

We plan to make many more trips to Norway, and across a variety of our markets in the near future, and look forward to spending time getting to know our clients, and being able to understand their exact hiring requirements.
