Preparing For An IT Job Interview

Preparing For An IT Job Interview

When going for an IT job interview, you will typically be asked some specific IT questions as well as standard interview questions. The interviewer will want to know that you are qualified for the job and have all the relevant experience needed. So you will want to prepare for your IT interview and insure you prove you have the skills you need.

Basic IT Technologies

Whilst you are prepping for the interview questions based on the skills described in the job description, don’t forget to go over fundamental IT knowledge. It is likely that you will be asked a variety of IT based questions. So, prepare for basic and specific ones to be sure you are fully prepared.

Research

This is the same for any interview- research. In an IT interview, make sure you have researched the company and know exactly what they do and how. Maybe come up with a few ideas of how they could progress further and how you could help them. Show the interviewer how you would use your specific IT knowledge to progress the company.

Experience

During the IT interview, make sure you are demonstrating all of your relevant experience. Before the interview, read over the job description and remind yourself of the skills they are looking for. Try to give examples of when you put specific skills into place. This will give the interviewer a better understanding of how you work and if you will be the right candidate.

Portfolio

If you are able to bring in a portfolio of your work, that can be a great idea. This gives you another chance to show you have the experience required and you can show examples of how you work. It will also impress the interviewer that you really have prepped.

Ask Questions

Again this is the same with every interview, make sure you ask questions. Find out if this is really the right job for you. Will there be room for you to develop your skills? Will you be working in the sector you really want to be in? It is your chance to make sure this is the right job for you.
