How To Stand Out In A Group Interview

How To Stand Out In A Group Interview

It is very common to have a group interview and they can all be in varying styles. They can be anything from answering normal interview questions to a completing a task as a group. The aim of the interview is usually to see how you interact with people and to see if you can work well under pressure. It can be daunting and scary to have other candidates in your interview, so here are our top tips to stand out in a group interview.

Get everyone involved

If you get everyone involved, you will look like a great leader and will show off your communication skills. If you can remember the other candidates names and use them, that is a bonus. It is great to prove that you can work well with other colleagues and it gives the interviewers an idea of how you will fit into the company.

Respectful

Even though you are trying to get everyone involved, make sure you don’t dominate the whole interview. Make sure you treat everyone in the room with respect and listen to their ideas and input.

Listening

Not only do you need to listen to the interviewer but make sure you listen to the other candidates. Try to include their ideas into the discussion and make it clear you are listening to everyone. It will show the interviewer that you have good communication skills.

Prep

It is still an interview, so make sure you prepare for normal interview style questions. You will also want to research the company and prepare in the same ways you would do for a one to one interview.

Although group interviews can seem like a daunting idea, make sure you prepare as normal. Try not to focus too much on how well the other candidates are doing and just try to show your skills.
